Depends on the armor, some are just 60 plat if you farm the materials but others are above 75 plat.

Take platemail that needs a rare material, you cannot farm it (well you could but it would take far too long since it depends on luck) and crafting costs at least 400 gp (since it needs another rare material) and the chest piece alone needs 15 of those.

That is at least 6 plat, turing a 15 plat piece into a 21 plat piece.

And I sould know because I crated the damn thing.

If you buy the materials its worst, I sold 2 of those materials at 1 plat and that was far lower that rare material trader price.

Yes, its hard work since I am farming the iron for my armor and even harder work if you need rare materials for the armor.

Because you expected the game to be item based and its not and now you expect them to force the game in that direction. Unfortunately this isnt going to happen. Areas will continue to be nerfed to ensure that the game maintains its focus. This is an original game concept and not an old mmporg rehash.

Yes, I got a platemail chest piece and spend over 21 plat for it, its not as easy and cheap to craft as, for example, gladiator armor.

I have salvaged/sold every scrap, and I now am the proud owner of a bank account totalling... are you ready?... 11K and change. Yep. That's it. There go my dreams of owning an axe better than 5-12 any time in the near future!

I've never seen a gold drop, and the purple drops I've seen were worth nothing beyond salvage either. I have a lousy weapon, no money to buy a better one, and apparently no chance to find a better one until I've finished the game and can work the "high level" areas? Which means that maybe my second character will have a decent weapon? Bah. If things don't start looking up, there won't be a second character. I'm enjoying the game so far, but as the mobs become stronger and stronger and my character doesn't, I envision hitting a plateau where frustration overcomes fun. That would be a shame.

This is the true tragedy here, i made it to yaks bend around 4 days after release, i had nowhere near 11 plat it was around 6 i think. BUT do you know what i could affored with 6 plat on my account? 6 plat was EASILY way more money than i could use at the time :P i bought the semi uber wepons and sheilds i use now from a fellow in ascalon. 3:1 Vampiric Cleaver of fortitude +27 health max damage 9 axe mastery. i got it for 1500gp . . .Crimson Carapace sheild the collecter's one for 400gp gold skull sheild 16 ar 6 tactics +45 hp while enchanted. 500gp, Gold Firey Dragon sword of swordsmanship max dmg req 9 swordsmanship +1 200 gp good luck with any new people finding deals like that now, and i wasnt "lucky" there was any number of people selling things for these prices.

I beat the entire game all quests and only achieved 40k in total in doing do. Now that they are nerfing the hell out of us i cannot get anymore money in afct my 2nd char i stared can barely achieve more then 10k by becons pearch.

If they keep nefing then evry1 will be unable to achieve money to purchase items. I belive anet has been making a mistake rather then correcting it.

Becuase of tis i belive this game isn't worth a 10/10 like its was said to be it earns myr ank of a 7/10.

I remember the first time through the game I made most of my money by salvaging iron and steels and selling them. Now new players can't even do that =P

I have clocked in about 120 something hours into the game, i been playing for about 19-20 days, so with the math i would play an average of 6 hours a day (which it use to be maybe 10 hours a day or more but the heat makes my comp overheat so i have not been able to play as much)

And after ALLL THIS time, I saved up all i could POSSIBLY save, I have had 4 gold drops ever, and only ONE sold for more than 1k, and that was an 8k bow max damage of something or w/e.

Most I have EVER had was 22k, and I spent that just 2 days ago on the new gladiator armor (they NEEEEED a helmet for that, jeez). And I was down to about 5k. I spent the next two days now saving up and now im up to... anyone wanna guess?.... 8K =D

2 days of work and I get 3k profit, wow LIFE IS GOOD *sarcastic cough*

Lets be honest, some people DO have good luck when it comes to drops, im one of the MANYYYYYY who don't have any good luck, why just yesterday i did two fissure runs and came out with one crappy purple staff O.o, I made about 500g profit in all, the rest was dark remains and non-max bows and axes, it would have been 800g profit or so but i spent 250 gold on splitting the cost to even GO THERE!

So at this rate, to get 15k gold I will have to play for about 10 days, or at the time table i said earlier, about 60 hours =D.

Maybe all together through playing the entire game I gathered about close to 30k, but I DID have to buy armor at rather crucial times to better myself.

I got the game after the big nerfing so to speak, so I have NEVER seen an abundance of gold my way and I have NEEEEVEEEER seen a black dye dropped to ANYONE in ANY of the parties I EVER been in.

Now I said in a recent thread that i havent seen shards or globs in the vendors, which makes them more rare >.> so I could sell the only shard I ever gotten for a very heft price... but that would make me a mean son of a bitch =D. Usual price i see from sellers is 3-3.5k... I bet i could get up to 6 o.o

My 2 copper pieces thrown in.

For everyone out there that whines about items. This game isnt about that! Its about experimenting with skills. Please take the time to read:

New changes will improve our ability to identify and ban users of bots, rebalance mission areas that were highly exploited by bots, and reduce the overall effectiveness of bots, exploits, and other highly repetitive forms of gold and item farming. We are taking these steps to improve the game for all players, so that people using bots to farm gold cannot generate a huge influx of new gold into the economy, which increases prices for everyone and encourages other players to engage in repetitive farming just to keep up.

We know that some players currently engage in repetitive farming activities for the primary purpose of unlocking skills and items for PvP. Rather than preserving the effectiveness of farming for this purpose, it is our intention to address the larger issue of the need for farming by assessing how players acquire and unlock items, runes, and skills, and then by taking steps to ensure that players can acquire and unlock these things through normal gameplay. We believe that the most effective way to play the game should also be the most fun way to play the game. You can expect to see the first meaningful changes towards this goal next week.

Each individual strategy is no more powerful than another, so a high level character - even with many times the number of skills - is not strictly better than a lower level character with only a dozen skills; he just has more choices.

This means that even a player who is just starting out will have skills that can help the team. Furthermore, buddies who like to play together will be able to continue to adventure together over the long term, because even though one may have less time to play each week, he'll still have valuable strategies to contribute to the partnership over the long term.

To imagine how it works, think about playing Magic: The Gathering. In Magic, you might own hundreds of cards, but choose only a small number to use for each game. You choose those cards based on the strategy you plan to use in a specific encounter. So like Magic, when you play Guild Wars, you have to think about your skill options, consider which ones might be needed in a particular mission, and then take it a step further and consider what your teammates are bringing to the mix. From your character's inventory of several dozens of skills (chosen from the game's hundreds of skills), you'll select a small number of skills to take into that mission. And when the next mission rolls around, you may set yourself up with an entirely different group of skills.

The game concept has been explicit from the start. The fact of the matter is ther is a large group of you out there who cannot bring yourselves to learn a new style of play i.e. one that isnt item orientated. I loved Diablo2, but this game is different, new and refreshing. So please stop and think before you moan!!

That is the overwhelming intent of the gameplay overall, yes.

But, if there was no plan to try to collect, try to achieve, try to have something to work for, why have things like FoW armor? Sure - it's not any better than Droknor's - but why have it at all if there's no way to get it (or if players aren't meant to get it)?

Think about it... With an open mind, not with preconcieved notions.

I am thinking about it with an open mind. Its the mass of people expecting an item based game who aren't. They expect the same old, tired and worn style of gameplay and aren't willing to except a new and fresh perspective. And in all fariness the items are there to work towards. However it takes a while to collect them, not a few days, as it should be. Its pointless having something to work towards if it is easily attainable. I am very happy with the current state of the game and I am very pleased with the updates which are free!!!

If the game was really entirely skill based like everyone says, then everyone would have equal stuff. In PVP this is true, with the exception of skills.

Point is, PVE is not skill based. I don't know if it's supposed to be, but it isn't. Because PVP and PVE can mix, it creates a problem of a PVE character possibly having a superior weapon because they got a really lucky drop.

If they want to make it skill based, why not just give us all free weapons and armor? Then it would be, and not an item quest like Diablo...

I just wanted to let all of you know that I read through this thread, and I understand what you're saying. It's a very difficult missions, really, to make a game that appeals, in equal measure, to those who play PvP only, PvE only, and a mix of the two. I believe that most of you do grasp the difficulty of the mission. And I think that most of you also know that we're working on this very hard, and we absolutely will not short one side of the equation in favour of the other.

We have a team who is working on all sorts of things. They may address Point A one day, and Point B another. But please know that we hear the concerns, and in fact we were discussing them just a few days ago. The challenge that I see, as a player and an admitted "cool item collector" type of player (when I'm PvEing) is that we do not intend to have overpowering items in the game. We aren't going to hand off hammers with 160 damage, or spells that kill everything within a 5 mile radius. PvE players might think "Why not? What does it hurt?" but Guild Wars is unique, and it is intended to appeal to, and be pleasurable for, both PvE and PvP players, and neither operates in a vacuum. Trust me, my PvE characters want the Bow of Burning with +1 gazillion fire damage, but getting that just isn't going to happen.

The bottom line is we're listening and we will address your concerns. I can't promise we'll address every concern with precisely the solution or suggestion that you've offered, but it's great of you to share your thoughts and always know that we consider this a high priority and an important goal.

I mean, I'm a casual player. I like to play through quests and whatnot just to see the game and enjoy myself. On the other hand, there's no way in hell I can actually afford anything. It's annoying.
In order to get rid of farming, they just made it so that everyone has to farm to make ends meet. Except, we seem to be faming on a dried out field with no seed.

I've been playing the game for only a few weeks and I must say I love it... But I can't get anything good enough to stay alive... If it was only skill based, I'd practically never die, but because I got a bad armor, I do. And when the runs I do hardly give me anything, and that these things are bought by the NPC Traders for 5% of the real value, I am having problems to keep some Expert Salvage Kits in my inventory!

And how am I supposed to get this 54 platinium for a Guild Hall with such a low income?
